Every home tells a story — and this one at Sunway Grid Residences, Johor Bahru, began with a simple dream: to turn a compact loft into a space that feels calm, open, and beautifully balanced.
When we first stepped into this unit, it had potential — tall ceilings, abundant natural light, and a unique split-level structure. What it needed was a touch of warmth, a sense of flow, and a design that made the most of every inch.
The Vision: Simplicity with Soul
Our design approach for this project was guided by one word — harmony.
We wanted to blend functionality and aesthetics so that every space, from the kitchen to the upper loft, felt connected.
The concept was inspired by modern minimalism with natural textures. We chose soft wood tones, clean lines, and subtle lighting details to create a sense of calm that welcomes you the moment you step inside.
The Design Journey
As you enter, your eyes are drawn upward to the double-volume ceiling — a signature element of this loft. We enhanced its height with a concealed cove lighting feature, softly illuminating the edges to create an airy and elegant atmosphere.
The glass balustrade, finished in a sleek black tint, adds a layer of sophistication while keeping the space visually open. From the mezzanine, the light flows beautifully across the room, creating a seamless transition between levels.
The Heart of the Home
The kitchen is compact, but every corner has been thoughtfully planned.
We paired warm oak cabinetry with matte olive green drawers, bringing together a palette that feels grounded and timeless. The combination of wood and muted tones gives the kitchen a calm, modern charm — practical for everyday life yet stylish enough to impress.
The breakfast counter doubles as a casual dining spot or work area — proof that small spaces can be both functional and beautiful.
Smart Space, Thoughtful Details
Under the staircase, we custom-built storage that fits perfectly into the slope — creating a clean look while offering hidden organization. The continuity of wood texture here ties the space together effortlessly.
Every design decision — from the placement of light switches to the alignment of grain patterns — was made with care. That’s the kind of craftsmanship we believe turns a house into a home.
The Final Feel
When the lights came on for the first time, everything felt just right.
The gentle glow along the ceiling, the warmth of the floor underfoot, and the reflections in the dark glass railing — all these small details came together to form a quiet elegance.
