The client of this remodeling project is a materialism scholarly family who appreciates natural sunlight, water, and greenery. They are social eventgoers who often host large gatherings at their residence while also prioritizing their living privacy. Passionate about traveling and collecting art from around the world, they were captivated by the "Dine Under the Stars" event series during one of their trips. As a result, they envisioned an open space that is both flexible in usage and capable of housing more than five vehicles while also accommodating gatherings of over 50 people. This project showcases the best of interior design, renovation, and house design in Johor Bahru, seamlessly integrating functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Key Highlights
Materials like bronze, wood, and stone were meticulously treated to emphasize their raw beauty. Shell-white limestone floors were wire-brushed before honing, resulting in an easily cleaned surface that feels natural beneath the feet. Many of the bespoke material treatments and structural systems exemplify the project’s truest expression of craftsmanship. It is not just about individual elements but how everything seamlessly comes together—the very essence of architecture design and renovation in Johor Bahru.
The client welcomes guests to freely explore their space while maintaining a strong emphasis on privacy. The design captures both introverted and extroverted characteristics. A nearly windowless upper-level box encloses the private quarters, giving the impression of being detached from the main building. Operable privacy screens were incorporated to enclose facade openings, allowing them to be adjusted based on privacy needs.
The ground floor, in contrast, is encased in glass, which can be fully opened to merge with the surrounding garden. A large glass feature in the hall creates an open-sky effect, bringing rain, greenery, and sunlight into the space.
Aligned with the theme of "Dine Under the Stars," the open space is designed to be airy, festive, and warm—an intimate retreat that can occasionally accommodate gatherings of more than 50 people. This approach to house design reflects modern interior design trends seen in Johor Bahru.
A haven for book lovers and art collectors, the house incorporates two long stretches of double-story bookshelves equipped with ladders in the main hall, catering to the scholarly family. To enhance warmth and elegance, bronze was selected as the primary metal, lending richness to the space.
Translucent glass was chosen for the high-level railing and walking platform of the bookshelves, allowing light to be both reflected and refracted throughout the hall, creating a luminous and inviting atmosphere. This refined architectural integration showcases expertise in interior design, renovation, and office interior design in Johor Bahru, ensuring a balance between aesthetics and functionality.
